Research

lab research

Whether it is researching organic materials in paintings or sequencing 175 human genomes a day, innovative research and applied practices happen throughout West Campus every day.

Work on the campus is primarily organized around four sectors: Arts & Humanities; Scientific Research Institutes; Scientific Research Cores; and Nursing. While the subject matter of individual projects may vary between faculty and researchers, the campus has been designed around placing resources within close proximity of each other—the result of which is a natural promotion of interdisciplinary collaboration and dialogue. By encouraging a mixture of ideas and approaches, the dynamic of the campus has enabled new ways of addressing issues, leading to advances such as innovations in art conservation practices and focused research addressing medical and environmental issues from different perspectives.

Scientific Research Institutes

Each scientific institute includes faculty and researchers from a wide range of academic departments and professional schools who bring their collective knowledge and expertise to bear on a common medical or environmental problem. This mingling of different disciplines inevitably sparks new ideas that can transform the course of the research and inspire new discoveries. more

Scientific Core Facilities

West Campus’ core facilities support the work of the institutes, offering researchers access to state-of-the-art technology, specialized laboratory equipment, and research services. The core facilities are also resources for the entire campus, and several offer services to outside institutions. more

Arts + Humanities

With the founding of the Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage and two core facilities dedicated to the preservation of Cultural Heritage, West Campus is making strides in conservation practices around the world through rigorous scientific research and imaging. more

Nursing

Research is a major focus at YSN. Faculty and students are developing strategies to address the most pressing global health care problems, such as diabetes, sleep disorders, cancer, heart disease, HIV-AIDS, and mental health. YSN researchers are also exploring new ways to manage chronic illness; pursuing biobehavioral research; and working to improve health for vulnerable populations. more
