Farren Isaacs,

Farren Isaacs
assistant professor in the Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and the Systems Biology Institute, has been selected as a 2014 DuPont Young Professor for his work in synthetic biology and genomic and cellular engineering.

The DuPont Young Professor program supports talented young faculty members in the early stages of their careers. Since its establishment in 1918, the DuPont Young Professor award has supported more than 700 young professors. Award winners receive a three-year grant to fund highly innovative research.

Isaacs’ research focuses on generating the technologies needed for advanced genomic and cellular engineering. His work has already allowed him to manipulate bacterial genes, enabling him to re-program and recode entire genomes. The Isaacs Lab develops enabling technologies to engineer organisms with the goal of enhancing our understanding of the underlying biology and facilitating research to expand biological function to address global challenges in medicine, energy supply and the environment.
